FAQ

What is Hypnosis / Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focussing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness - reached using skilled relaxation techniques - allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.
Hypnotherapy is an alternative curative healing method that is used to create subconscious change in a patient in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings. It is undertaken with a subject in a Hypnotic state of mind and is a natural, safe state of mind. Although sometimes mistaken for the sleep state, it is actually an altered state of mind and awareness, where the individual is generally consciously aware of what they experience. It is sometimes known as a focused awareness. Hypnosis allows the therapist / client to communicate with the deep, inner parts of the mind (known as the subconscious mind). This communication can help alleviate many types of problems including behavioural and emotional problems. Hypnosis is a completely natural state to experience. Hypnotherapy is where a professionally trained therapist helps a client systematically go safely into this state either by a one to one session or to a lighter level by pre-recorded media. Once in this state psychotherapeutic intervention can be more effective.

Who can be hypnotised?

We believe that anybody can be guided into a state of therapeutic hypnosis as long as:

  • The client has the sufficient motivation to enter the state (i.e. wants to be hypnotised)
  • The client is an appropriate candidate for hypnosis
  • A comfortable surroundings (peace & quiet) are available.

All that is really needed from the client is the ability to concentrate and the willingness to work with the therapeutic post hypnotic suggestions that will be used to help achieve your goals.

Is it the same as stage Hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is completely different from stage Hypnosis. Stage Hypnosis is used for entertainment purposes and is for the benefit of the audience whilst Hypnotherapy is used to help people with a wide range of problems in a way that is safe and appropriate, for their benefit.

What to expect

You're fully in control when under hypnosis and don't have to take on the therapist's suggestions if you don't want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state and this will occur naturally when the CD or download stops playing and you can no longer hear the recording.

Hypnosis doesn't work if you don't want to be hypnotised.

Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnotherapy is safe with no unpleasant side effects.

Shall I be aware of what is happening?
Yes, you will hear everything being said.

Am I asleep?
No, just extremely relaxed.

How does it work?
It uses the power of your own mind to relieve symptoms and alter unwanted
behaviour patterns.

Could I be influenced to do something against my own will?
No, you would be awaken out of the hypnotic state instantly if
any such suggestion was given to you or if somebody else voice was added to the recording.

How many sessions will I need?
About 3 to 5 sessions of the recording is suitable for simple problems, but more deep rooted
problems will require more sessions.

Is there any reason for concern
None whatsoever, it is a perfectly natural state of mind and proven aid to assist in acheiving goals.
